Karen L. Thorson is an American motion picture producer. She is a Consulting Producer for the first, second, and third seasons. She has also worked with Treme co-creator David Simon on his earlier series The Wire. She was an associate producer for the films The Devil's Own (1997) and Titus (1999).

Career[]

Thorson is an award-winning American television producer.[1] She worked on all five seasons of The Wire.[1] Before joining the crew of The Wire she worked as an associate producer and post-production manager in the film industry.[1]

She was the post-production supervisor for the films Being Human (1994), Kundun (1997), He Got Game (1998), Summer of Sam (1999) and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999). She was an associate producer for the films The Devil's Own (1997) and Titus (1999).

Thorson joined The Wire production team as a co-producer in 2001 while they prepared the show's pilot episode. The show was created by Treme's David Simon.[2] She developed the series title sequence. She retained her role for the show's second season.[3] For the third, fourth, and fifth season she was credited as producer.[4][5][6]

She returned to film as the post-production supervisor for Broken Flowers (2005) during The Wire's off-season.

Following the conclusion of The Wire she became a co-producer for crime drama The Unusuals. The show was canceled after one season.

She rejoined Simon as a Consulting Producer for Treme in 2010. As for The Wire she designed the main title sequence for Treme. She remained in this role for the second season in 2011. She returned for the third season in 2012.

Thorson was married to producer Robert F. Colesberry until his death in 2004.[1]
